Starting from scratch

In many ways we have to start from scratch. The old radical movements are dead. The workers’ movement is a defeated rump, anti-colonialists became new crooked elites, the Left turned into a student union squabble, anarchism is irrelevant, the liberal democratic centre doesn’t hold, the fascists and fanatics are unleashed.

What other choice is there except to build again? Either you lie down and let the boot stamp on your face, forever. Or we pick ourselves up and build new movements, new networks, new infrastructure, new counter-power. And new stories, new visions of a more free and equal world. Like our ancestors did time and time again, since long before the builders downed tools on the pyramids.
